Dana,
If you are on R/3 4.6 then SAP Console may very well meet your needs. There are inherent advantages to tying your RF connectivity directly back to SAP as opposed to using a typical "Middleware" solution to RF enable your warehouse, IM/WM activities, etc. Essentially, your business logic would reside in standard ABAP/4 and your data would not have to be duplicated between systems. That lowers your maintenance costs on a going basis and it also allows for real time validation directly against the SAP database. Also, chances are that whatever RF hardware you are using today will continue to work in a SAP Console environment.
All that said, however, implementing SAP Console can be a little tricky and there are some watchouts. The process is pretty well documented by SAP but they also offer a class that you can take (WNARF1 - Radio Frequency in LES - 4.6c). I would recomend that you take this class from SAP - it is a two day course that covers the basics of a SAP Console installation as well as an overview of the LES (Logistics Execution) transactions. After taking that class you should be able to setup and install SAP Console in your SAP environment. Then, as you look at integrating your exising RF hardware, coding within SAP Console to model your work processes and specific business logic, etc., our customers have found our SAP Console training to be a good "follow-on" class to the SAP courseware. I represent a company named Applied Tactical Systems (ATS - a division of Vertex Interactive) and we specialize in supply chain execution / RF data collection solutions specific to SAP R/3. Feel free to give me a call (949-632-3130) or email (DGoldstein@atsworld.com) if you would like to discuss further.
