I recall that in 1994 Fortune printed an article that stated, SAP will never establish a foothold in this country. Doomsayers abound heartily, but we're still going strong as evidence by our beat the street earnings from our IS solutions.

: Hi

: Somebody has misguided you that the grass looks greener on the SAP world. Today SAP is a sunset industry. SAP has not just sold but oversold it literally all the Fortune 500s are running SAP where else more SAP can be sold ?. Today the fact is zillions are sitting in the SAP world waiting for work. Don't think SAP is better than Java atleast Java is a sunrise industry. Read the following URL where analysts are seeing the future of SAP this is not what I am saying this is the article in the reputed Fortune magazine found on www.fortune.com.

: So the simple question is you will be fool if you do a ABAP course blowing up a tonne of money on it. Do not expect employers to be giving you a job with already so many experienced ABAPers in the industry. Appears right now there is gloom on the entire industry not just Java even experienced SAPpers are having a tough time getting jobs these days due to the huge slowdown in the economy.

: Buddy - Good advice always seek contention in what you have got don't be greedy. I work for a large MNC in India and I have been with this company since 3 years there are so many experienced people why would anybody give you a job and moreover it is not a situation of too many jobs and too few people rather it is the opposite too few jobs and too many people.

: Don't be disheartened go home and write some good Java programs and drink some Java and be happy ever after.

: : Hi,
: : I'm a java programmer based in India with 3 yrs exp.
: : Of late,as I'm sure everyone knows, the market for java pros has not been looking good & there no signs yet as to when its gonna start looking up, if at all!!
: : But,I've been hearing that the opportunities for SAP pros especially ABAPers are currently very good & accordingly,I'm considering a switch to SAP/ABAP.
: : As u all are seasoned SAP pros,I'd appreciate ur views on:
: : 1.Would it be a good decision for me to switch to SAP/ABAP?
: : 2.If yes,how steep can I expect the learning curve to be?
: : 3.Does mySAP (or any other erp/scm/e-business package) use java? Coz once i'm into it,I'd want to use my knowledge of java to get further & move into more related areas like e-business packages that use java & erp.
: : 4.& How long do u reckon the market for SAP/ABAPers is gonna stay good?
: : 5.How difficult is it to get a break in SAP/ABAP after undergoing ABAP training from ERDC Noida(or a similar training institute)?

: : Thanks.
