Field Requirement Type Grayed Out

Hi guys:

After I enter a material in a sales order, I noticed that, on the Procurement tab, the field Requirement Type is sometimes grayed out. Sometimes it is not, and I could change the requirement type. Does anyone know what is the setting that control this?
