Clyde,

There is some good information in the SAP LO110 Service Management Overview book. If you have the book from the LO110 class then that should have some information to assist your battles.

From experience Equipment Masters are essential to the Service Management/Plant Maintenance Process. Even more so if you have scheduled Maintenance and Service Contracts. Equipment Masters allow you to track the history of a specific unit (equipment). Without Equipment Numbers there is no trackable of Services performed on a specific unit, no contracts and no warranty info. There are many other reason but those are the most common uses of Equipment Master Records.

Here is SAP's defination from their help CD:

A piece equipment can be installed at a functional location or in a superior piece of equipment for a certain period of time. In the course of its useful life it can be used at different installation locations.

Pieces of equipment can be structured hierarchically, enabling the structure of complex pieces of equipment to be represented.

Pieces of equipment can be linked to one another. In this way the global network structure of a technical system and the dependencies between the pieces of equipment can be represented.

: We are in the process of setting up a task force within my company to educate our employees on the value and uses of the Equipment Record in SAP. We are currently on version 4.6b and are using all modules. We make extensive use of the equipment records in the service group, but are having difficulties with inputs from other groups. My explanations obviously are not working.

: I am looking for a presentation or white paper that give a good overview of equipment records, their maintenance and use in SAP. If anyone know where I might be able to find one please let me know.

: Thanks

: Clyde
