Use of Equipment Records

We are in the process of setting up a task force within my company to educate our employees on the value and uses of the Equipment Record in SAP. We are currently on version 4.6b and are using all modules. We make extensive use of the equipment records in the service group, but are having difficulties with inputs from other groups. My explanations obviously are not working.

I am looking for a presentation or white paper that give a good overview of equipment records, their maintenance and use in SAP. If anyone know where I might be able to find one please let me know.
