BAPI_CUSTOMER_CREATEFROMDATA1

I am calling the BAPI BAPI_CUSTOMER_CREATEFROMDATA1 from my application using JCO. I provide values to all the parameters in the structures PI_PERSONALDATA and PI_COPYREFERENCE in the import parameters, the other import parameters are blank. I get the error "invalid address text"

I get the same message when i execute the BAPI BAPI_CUSTOMER_CREATEFROMDATA1 from tcode se37.

any ideas what could be wrong??
