Some notes for you...
BO uses mdx and Bex uses sql. BW actually utilises sql via rolap technology.
the OLE DB for OLAP BAPI converts BO mdx into sql (apparantly very badly).
version 3.0 has some changes and enhancements to the bapi (like the ability to use calc or restricted key figures)as well as XML transfers
BO can work off line - good for mobile sales applications.
BO has good formatting - BEx is useless - however in version 3.0 Bex has a format painter for the front end
Bex in version 3.0 also comes with all sorts of new goodies - front end variable creation - however there seems to be a push to using the internet browser as the front end of choice (there are all sorts of new functions for the web - download to excel being one)
hope all this helps - or confuses you more

: Hello,
: Can somebody compare and contrast Business Objects and Bex?
: One disadvantage I'm aware of with Bex is the limitation of number of rows & columns. I came to know that Microsoft has removed this limitation with Excel 2000. I do have Excel 2000 on Windows 2000; but I still have the limitations. Is there any setting to be made on Excel to remove the number of rows limitation?
: Thanks in advance.
