The data in dp has two parts. Key figures which is the actual data and characteristics which says which buckets to put the data in. You are correct reallignment is changing charatertictis associated with specific records. This way you move the buckets that the key figure resides in. You might want to do this if you chage and product and you what to see the new product in your sales history, or if you reliagn a sales region. Realignment lets you do this without unloading the whole infocube, changing the characteristics offline and reloading the infocube.
