Re: SAP career advise & Training?hi,
well certification is very important for a good career in SAP. well obviously the cleints will insist for Certified candidates. well lot of people who are certified and non-certified people keep saying not required. But companies in future insists only certified professionals. to reach mail me venkat@genovate.com regards venkat
Re: SAP career advise & Training?
10 years SAP experience in various industries. And never, my customers asked for certification .... Didier
Re: SAP career advise & Training?I have been in the SAP industry for 12 year , never have been asked or have I asked for certification.
It is possible that we may see a need for it in the future as the number of non experienced SAP professionals who fake thier experience grows. SAP2020
Re: SAP career advise & Training?there may be a need. there was, about 16 years ago. everybody had to come up with an ISO or any other quality related certificate.
still, i advise, that you all search this forum for keywords 'certificate' and you'll come up with quite a lot of statements from various SAPFans that should give you a hint. cheers, fish
Re: SAP career advise & Training?very true, very true, ...the current trend and future trend I think, will also look for certifications along with experience,
I think by joining into this website, I have learned and got some Ideas about how I am going to proceed with SAP learning. Yes, first study and learn, practice, exercise then get certified. .. This is a great website, infact I got a contact and bought a DVD as well... Thanks for those replied..in the forum.. Thanks VJ Thanks much for educating me,

Re: SAP career advise & Training?
As a SAP training partner you would say that. In reality the market recognises that experience & ability is not measurable by certification. SAP have been telling companies to only use certified consultants for well over a year now, companies have generally been going for people who know what they are doing, regardless of certification status. http://www.turnkeyconsulting.com/
Re: SAP career advise & Training?Certification, for some it might have helped , but for others who have very good amount of experience, it might NOT add any value for them as they considers themselves as an Expert.
Certification is only relevant in a situation where you have similarly experienced people and are looking for something to help choose the best person Or it is part of SAP gimmicks (as like any other popular company) to earn money Here are some comments from SAP Consultants : 1. "While the experience proves you can do the job, the certification helps demonstrate that you have all the bases covered. The cert shouldn’t be seen as a foot in the door, but it’s still something that adds value to your skills. For a junior to intermediate consultant, I think it is of tremendous value." 2. SAP Certification combined with experience in supporting and implementing SAP is always going to be a good selling point but I agree some employers making the hiring decisions need to be educated on the value of the certification - especially the SAP ones. With regards to the “freshers” one of their biggest problems is that they sometimes aim too high expecting to get the high paying jobs because they are certified which is unrealistic. Re: SAP career advise & Training?in North America, a certificate's value is well over-rated.
I never got asked if I was certified in any interview, and, I've been working as SAP BASIS for over 10 years. Yes, I got certified 4 years ago. My employer at that time sent me to training and paid for everything. Only 30% of the class was able to pass certification exam. Still, certification is over-rated if you have no work experience. Re: SAP career advise & Training?Experience + Certification will be great...
Re: SAP career advise & Training?I shall be sitting certification later on this year - only because it was offered by my employer...
I guess they maybe able to charge a higher rate for me! But why not! i have over 8 years SAP Experience across several modules and now am specialising in PI/ABAP..... Although i use the latter very loosely!
Re: SAP career advise & Training?Old topic, but I had to reply...
When I am interviewing, I view SAP certification as a black mark which the applicant must overcome. Seriously. I have interviewed a lot of people, and many "certified" individuals turn out to be unable to apply their knowledge. Since some managers can occasionally be snowed by buzzwords (of which the certified individual will know many), I grill these applicants extra hard. I can typically pick out the rest of the phonies from a mile away (I did miss one once, many years ago). What is the most important thing to me when hiring is the individual's capacity to aggressively dig into and solve a problem for which they were previously unprepared. That is the mark of a good employee or consultant to me. Sometimes, that is the kid green from college, and not the 10+ year vet. Sharp + creative >> experienced >> certified, and sharp+creative+experienced trumps all. Re: SAP career advise & Training? Thanks a lot,
Currently I am preparing to study on my own, reading as many article's , when I am ready fully I will do the certification, but still I haven't figured out what is best for me, big fight in my mind whether to go for Basis study or SAP consultant study on particular module, since I am supporting MM, would it make sense to study MM ? even if I study MM consulatantcy, who would give me a chance to be a consultant ? how to gain experience? I just need to knwo where to start, to be a consultant. Thanks VJ Thanks much for educating me,

Re: SAP career advise & Training?i took the liberty to reduce the font size to something that does not hurt my eyes ...
my advise would be to take the 'side entrance' to consultancy and first try to sign up with a company already using SAP, maybe as a trainee SAP supporter or a key-user ... if you get the chance to specialise in one of the IS, i think that would give you a niche less exposed to economic fluctuation. do not focus to much on a single module, focus on getting a process running (this usually includes more than one module). cheers, fish
