External no.assignment for reference customer/customer

hi all,

i'm using BAPI_CUSTOMER_CREATEFROMDATA1 to create a customer using JCO, providing personal data using PI_PERSONALDATA and reference customer number using PI_COPYREFERENCE, i'm getting the error

"Internal error: External no.assignment for reference customer/customer"

i'm getting the same error , even if i din't provide the PI_COPYREFERENCE data.

please help me to solve this issue.
