Locking of messages

Postby nw04s.consultant » Fri Jan 05, 2007 8:15 am

Hi Folks,

I went through many posts myself on diff topics and found even if the message initiator confirms that the problem is resolved, there are more postings going on top.

I think, the resolution of the problem is important, and the message should be locked once the owner confirms the resolution.

You can also request message owners to make sure that they have to confirm once the problem is resolved, even if by their own efforts.

If there is any flag which can indicate status "Resolved", then people looking for solution by message title can get some solid options if they can search resolved messages.

Additionally, if there is an option for the message owner to request unlocking his message, if by any chance you lock it, It would give little bit more flexibility to the owner and explain why it should be unlocked.

sounds like a good idea but this will need a lot of work for moderators which will need to read all individual posts one by one and check if the person clearly says that his problem was resolved.

I know that phpBB has hacks to add functionnality, but the owner of this sites wants to it it vanilla for easier upgrades.

What happens if users want to comment on the solution accepted by the poster?

What happens if it's just plain wrong?

Surely, discussion should continue until it dies a natural death when no one is interested anymore?

Marking posts as RESOLVED is a good idea, and if you are satisfied with the answer then just ignore it. Let others continue if they want to. They'll soon tire of it if they are ignored.
