Hi,
Do anybody using material classification in material master? From the documentation, I know the setting is quite tedious on customizing, in what circumstances we need to use this? How is the user effort to maintain the data?
Hope you don't mind to share.
Thanking you in advance.

We use material classification. Mostly I have used to to allow different user exits access characteristic data to make the user exits operate certain ways. Creating characteristics and values for mateiral classes is more master data than it is configuration.
What we have done is very basic material classification. I am finding though that after you use it for a while it becomes easier to use and find more uses for it.
An example of how we use it is to have a user exit calculate next inspection date for some of our materials. A characteristic value populated against a material class determines howe many months the next inspection date is calculated backwards from the expiration date.
I hope this helps a little bit.

Hello,
We use material classification as a standard way to add data related to items.
There is no customization invovled and it is just as adding fields to the material input screens.

Hi Ise,
I also do not find it difficult to set a classification system for Material
Master objects. The Classification System is a cross module tool that work
almost with no customisation (for some objects like Quality Notifications
you have a minor steps like activating a certain notification type to allow
use of classification but again we are talking about a check box). Things
only get a bit complicated if you use Classification with dependencies for
say Material Variant Configuration, but again no configuration is involved
Classes and Characteristics make it easier for you to logically organise
objects according to various criteria, group, find similar / identical /
alternative materials according to some parameters when performing
analyses.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
