Cost Estimator

Do you want to work in a leading defence company which provides world class products for the UK's Royal Navy? BAE Systems Submarines is currently looking for a number of Cost Estimators to join our team based in Barrow-in-Furness. There is potential for undertaking this role either on a full or part time basis.

As a Cost Estimator, you will be working closely with a broad range of people, which includes functions across our Barrow site and the Ministry of Defence. You will be ensuring there is the required level of expert support to help generate estimates to support pricing and tendering activities.

This opportunity comes at an exciting time for the business which is undergoing major development with three programmes underway and a forward workload to 2050. This role will provide you with the chance to be involved in the strategically important activities of estimating, pricing and tendering for a rapidly expanding business area.

Your main responsibilities as a Cost Estimator will involve:

Providing expert estimating advice and guidance across the business

Establishing robust, defendable estimates for labour and materials

Reconciling contracted price with latest estimates using models to establish contract performance and variances

Modelling factors such as price variation and inflation to understand potential impact on financial returns against the contracted price position

Generating people-hour budgets and providing advice to production departments for project monitoring purposes

Understanding and implementing the contract governance process and participating in relevant meetings

Your skills and qualifications as a Cost Estimator:

- High level of data analysis skills and/or technical production background
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft packages (particularly MS Excel)
- Excellent stakeholder management skills

- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and/or data
- Appreciation of performance measurement techniques and tools (e.g. EVM, SAP and Dassian)
- Knowledge of Submarine processes
- HNC/degree level qualified or equivalent experience

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to establish positive customer relationships, understanding their requirements and negotiating effectively.
