hi everybody,
I am trying to make the RKS work ... with little success.
The kernel is 742_REL patch 28.
- Code: Select all
56> sapcontrol -nr 40 -function UpdateSystem 600 600 1
18.07.2016 10:54:57
UpdateSystem
FAIL: Cannot determine ABAP SAP_BASIS release
I browsed all SAP notes and dozen of forums for solution without success. Do you have any idea what could be the issue?
Regards,
Zav

Hello,
The command was executed as sidadm (of course)
I tried also to feed the user/password to the sapcontrol both ways: -queryuser and -user parameters
same result.
Other checks:
- I restarted the sapstartsrv with sapcontrol successfully.
- the SAP host agent and saposcol runs as root.
Regards,
Zav
Btw, do you use RKS?

I never had to use RKS. I don'T see the added value.
for me, stopping SAP, updating the kernel and start my SAP system takes less than 5 minutes of downtime when planned properly!

Hello,
I agree system restart goes fast.
Getting downtime window is the issue. It occured that we waited months for a restart with several postpones due to projects and other important activities.
semi-online kernel patch could help ... and maybe it could be usable for profile parameter changes also.
Regards,
Zav
