We had a similar experience (oh, the shame of a dirty driveway).
I got my old Bosch powerwasher out but it took us frigging AGES because we didn't have a suitable attachment. It's like trying to take out an entire army with a sniper rifle. My woman had to put her sunglasses on because the earth and crap was flying everywhere.
When I finally convinced her to stop she took off her shades and gasped in horror - we'd simply transferred the muck up from the driveway onto the walls, windows, the neighbour's walls, window, car. It was chaos.
We were unable to find a compatible Bosch driveway attachment so ended up buying a Karcher powerwasher. It feels cheap and nasty compared to my lovely Bosch (purr) but it has made cleaning the driveway (oh, again, the shame!) so much easier.
Possibly the most modest person in the world.
