Is setting up planning file entry (OMDO) mandatory b4 MDBT

Postby bharghav » Sun May 13, 2012 10:44 pm

Hi,

The system I am working on has got planning file entry(OMDO) configured along with the creation and scheduling of the total planning variant using MDBT.Is setting up of planning file entry a mandatory step before scheduling the total planning variant (MDBT).

As per my observation, change in stock automatically causes a change in the NETCH indicator.Need your insights!!!

Note: Using NETCH

Thanks,

Hi,

If you are going to run MD01 transaction with ''NETCH'' Processing Key, then it is necessary that the planning file entry job shall be run in background via OMDO transaction.

Hi,

As per your response I understand that, for executing MDBT transaction, you do not require to set up a planning file entry.I have got a question here.

In MDBT transaction while creating variant, I see the same screen which is reflecting in MD01. The only difference I see between these 2 transactions is that in MDBT,MRP run is scheduled as per the requirement however for MD01 we need to manually run it.If this is the case ,why do we need to set up the planning file entry (OMDO) for executing MD01. Kindly clarify.

Thanks,

Hi,

What I meant was that it is the ''Processing Key'' which is set in both MDBT or MD01 transaction which controls if you have to run OMDO transaction.

Hi,

I am still not clear. On change in stock,NETCH gets enabled in the planning file. Considering this case, why do we have to set up planning file in the config(OMDO).Need your inputs.

Tks,

Hi,

The fact is that not all new material master records that you define will have the stock quantity (load and/or change) before first MRP run. Hence, the planning file entry shall be generated.

Hi,

I created a new material with absolutely no stock. In MD21 (display planning file entries), I see NETCH planning indicator set. Is it because of maintaining "Planning horizon" in the config.

If yes, then we do not have to set and schedule the planning file entry in the config.

OSS note 205681 helps to explain this.
Good luck!
