BW installation

Hi,
i am working on SAP since a long time but now there is a lot of new "things". Especially SAP Netweaver. I started a new position where we are asked to install BW under sap netweaver 7.3
My colleague said that Java and Abap stack can t have the same SID according to a friend of his but i can t see a documentation or notes saying that.
In fact, i can t even find a BW installation guide under 7.3. i am a little confuse. In old times, you type service.sap.com/instguides and you find what you need.
I have a colleague but he is a little lost too.
Can you please enlight me?
First, where can i find the documentation for installing BW under sap netweaver 7.3
does it exist?
and secondly, why can t we install java and abap on same sid?
Where i was working before we had CRM installed with java and ABAP and same for BW but it was not 7.3

Please read Netweaver 7.3 Master Guide.

Dual Stack installations are now not possible (with few exceptions like Solution Manager). Hence two SIDs. One for AS-ABAP and another for AS-JAVA.

yes. Yesteday s night after posting here i continued my search and find the Media List and Master guide on SAP website.
Also, i found some SAP documents saying that you can install a BW dual stack but some functionnalities will not work.

7.2 Deployment recommendation for SAP Netweaver BI 7.30
The general recommendation is to deploy BW components (ABAP) and BEx WEB components (based on JAVA) on separated systems. Dual integrated stacks is a possible exception and was recommended by SAP years ago, but nowadays SAP highly recommends to use the separated single stacks:

ï‚· High scalability (server itself can scale or easy split to two servers possible)
ï‚· ABAP and Java could be scaled independently
ï‚· Different innovation speeds for ABAP and JAVA possible, version dependencies removed with SAP Netweaver 7.02

In fact after enquiring some people in my work and checking the dev and quality, there is only abap stack for BW. But there is a Java installed on dev that is used for dev and quality
Anyway, for what i ve read so far, i need to start DVD SAP NETWEAVER 7.3 OS/DB Dependent Components (51042312) and install ABAP stack from there.
And then install SAP NW 7.3 BI CONT ADDON7.35 (51039308)

Am i correct?

I think there is some confusion. By dual stack, I mean using SAPinst and install both Java + ABAP in one SID. This is not possible. Also, Java Add-in to an existing AS-ABAP is also not possible.

Above should take care of dual stack confusion.

Now, it is possible to have an AS-JAVA catering to multiple AS-ABAP systems. For example, one can have a single instance of AS-JAVA (for e.g, EP) and cater to DEV, QUA & PRD using "adaptive rfc". This is more a question of design than of technicality.

i asked the guy who installed that why we dont use it for production he said it was possible but it will mix between the dev and production
it is not a java stack. It is a “standalone” java instance in version 7.3 in order to connect the billing database.

as you might understand the situation is complex in this company.
to summarize, dev and quality abap stack for BW was installed in september. in february a java instance was installed in dev that works for both dev and quality
i will try to stick to sapfans from now to learn more about netweaver
