What's different between class 200 and 300

Is anybody can tell me the difference between class 200(Material:configurable object) and 300(Variants) ?

The primary difference is that class type 200 can only be instantiated for materials (Object MARA) whereas 300 can be used for many objects (sales order items, equipment, services, reservations.................). There are other things also - Engineering change management is active for 300, but not 200. You can check customising for class types to see it all.
