Discontinuation/Follow-up

Is there anyone that can give me some feedback on things to watch out for when using simple discontinuation/followup in the MRP4 view. For example:

If part A is being replaced with part B,
1.) Effect on process orders. Does the process order automatically change the part to B when inventory of A reaches 0?
2.) What about if the order is firmed - I'm guessing A will remain on the order
3.) Backflushing. Any thing to worry about here?
4.) Planning. I'm assuming MRP anicipates a shortage of B and plans to have it available when A runs out?
5.) Stock transport orders or reservations for A - will they automatically change to B?
6.) Any other pointers or things to be careful of?

do you have any succes to fing out how this discountinuation works?
I also have problem with setting follow up material and transfer requirements and demands to follow up material.
pls let me know how to set it if You got to the point.
