Planning for Multiple Operations on Single Process Order

Post by bcs117 » Wed Jan 13, 2010 8:53 am

We have a request for a new process order structure that would include multiple operations (resources) on a single process order. We will produce material at the first operation/resource and then move that material to be consumed at the second operation/resource. However, the issue we are having is from a planning standpoint. Since these are both on a single process order they have the same start/end date when in reality the 2nd operation can't start until the 1st is finished (several days). Is there a way to "plan" at an operation level instead of the order level?

They do not both have the same start/end date, but the order itself does (see basic dates/scheduled dates). You'll see this on the General tab of the production/process order. If you take a look at the operation overview (or phases, I believe it still says operation overview on the button in the process order?) you will see independent "production" start/finish dates.

If you have a need to actually move individual operation dates, look into capacity requirements planning; see "dispatching." CRP is no simple undertaking, but it isn't an 800 pound guerilla either.
