Limits on WBS elements

Post by henleya » Thu Apr 19, 2007 11:13 am

Is there a limit of how many levels of WBS elements you can have on a project? I'm thinking not. Is this configurable? I can't seem to find anything in the IMG.

Thanks.

hello,

you could put a maximum by using validation rules....

The maximum level as per SAP Standard is 99. As suggested u can use validation to restrict the same in your enviornemnt.

hi,

Specify your Project Coding Mask length this will resolve your problem for restrict WBS creation upto that level.

And for hierarchy structure disply nuber of levels to be exploded.

Go to your Project Profile In Control Tab- Basic Data and maintain field

Level of Detail -Enter the value for how many levels you required.
You use this value to determine the number of levels you
want to display when you call up the display of the work
breakdown structure

So really it's in the Project Coding Mask where you can limit how many levels a project can have then?

I found the settings on the Project Profile. The display option is 1 and Level of detail is 0.

Thanks.

hi,

In project coding mask if you defined 2 levels you can create WBS elements upto 2nd level.

Hello,

I'm looking at the project coding mask and there are 2 options in the IMG. Define special characters and define project coding mask. I still don't see where it is limited to what level? In the Define Project coding mask the text description says 4 level Project structure, but I don't see any settings for this except for the wording.

Thanks.

angela

the thing u r talking of in the project profile is for the display option,i.e. if u mention 3 there then only 3 levels of hierarchy will be dsplayed and the further in the profile won't be displayed even though there may be more.

thanks and regards

hi hehelya,

In project coding mask if u defined as follows
p-0000-00-00
(P-0000 is proj def. P-0000-00 is 1st level. P-0000-00-00 is 2nd level)

then you can generate WBS upto second level.
You cant generate WBS for 3rd level i.e.P-0000-00-00-00
Because u defined project coding mask only upto 2nd level
i.e.P-0000-00-00

This way u can restrict WBS levels.
