2 questions on IW42

Postby Sallyxu » Fri Aug 08, 2014 12:32 am

Hi PM Guru,

If we add material consuption in IW42, which means material is used during maintenance process after planning, how does warehouse control the inventory? Do they have a Good Issue slip generated?

One more question, I got this warning message:

Customizing incorrectly maintained
Message no. SE729

What is the reason, please? Is it because it is not allowed in the confirmation config?

Thank you,

Sally

Sally,

Often goods issues are not performed by the technicians (i.e not authorised) as this means the warehouse staff have no control. Maybe you should discuss this with the business first.

Your 2nd question is not clear??

Hi Pete,

Thank you for your help.

I wonder what the reason is for the error message?

I performed it but got the message.

Please share your experience.

Hi Pete,

After referring to an OSS note concerning this issue, it seems it is caused by the different entries between Table T162V and table control for screen SAPLMLSP400 from an upgrade.

If it is the case, what is the solution to fix it?

One more question, supposing technician needs something urgent and they use IW42 for the addtional material consumption. And they are authorized to do so.

What is the material document generated afterwards so warehouse can have the material movement control.

Thank you,

Sally

Sally,

If tech's do the goods movement, then the material documents and stock adjustments are performed automatically - you cannot have a 2-step process.

In emergencies, some companies operate a paper-based system until the warehouse staff are back on shift. This entails the tech physically removing the stock from the shelf, but completing a form to say what stock was removed, and to which order(s).

Then the warehouse staff perform the SAP goods movements based on the pare information..

Hi Pete,

I understand the process.

Would you please try testing that in IW42 and please see if there is any material document issued?

With that, does it mean this process is applicable for low cost consumables? Because such material request/comsuption does not need Approval or control.

Thank you,

Sally

Yes - material documents are created via IW42.

Hi Pete,

If we impose Release Strategy on PM based PR, what will happen if we put material request in IW42 goods movement?

Please help.

Sally,

As far as I am aware the PR release strategy wont affect IW42.

What are you trying to achieve in IW42?

Hi Pete,

Thanks for asking the details of our requirement.

1. We need the Release Strategy on PM in order to control cost.

2. In IW42, the reason for adding material is that in night shift or in emergency case, there are some additional material we may grab material from warehouse without maintenance approval.

So we need to put that in IW42 after the order is done.

If we impose RS, does sytem allow us to do so in IW42?

Am I clear?

Sally,

And I've been through this process with a few customers over the years.

The main issues here are:
- At what point in the order processing do you want to control these costs e.g. at order release??
- Are you controlling planned or actual costs
- Do you really want to stop a job once its started

Stopping the users booking materials via IW42 should be straight forward by using authorisations. And as I stated above, in many companies the maintenance techs don't have access to perform goods movements anyway..

Hi Pete,

We need this 2 processes for material ordering:

1. IW32- for planned material

2. IW42-for bulk material

My Question is how to prevent normal material (non bulk material ) from being ordered in IW42 without approval?

Thank you,

Sally

Sally,

You would probably need a development in the MM goods issue process.

And the system would need to be able to distinguish between normal and bulk materials.

Talk to your MM team, they should be able to help.
