Dear All
Probably this question should be forwarded to Finance list but I would like to learn about your own experiences about this case from the maintenance point of view.
If I am not wrong, within the maintenance work orders, the profit centre (additional data tab) is the profit center of the main work center's cost centre. So this profit centre might well different from the profit center of the settlement cost centre.
Questions are the following:
1) Why do you think that SAP uses Main Work Center Cost Center and Profit Center on additional data? My opinion is, this additional data tab data might be used to report things like which orders are created for this responsible cost centre & profit centre. s this profit centre there just for reporting purposes? Doies it have any other dunctionality?
2) Have you experienced any issues with this? Or do you have any possible issues which might be caused by this?

No idea why SAP chose to default the PC from the CC on the MWC...

There is a user-exit to determine your own PC. Have a look at TCode SMOD searching for IWO10005

Dear gtheodry,
The cost cycle in plant maintenance is a very important function that can be customized via user exit IWO10005 as PJA mentioned.
I will just try to answer your questions as simply as i can.
1.The Responsible cost center is copied from main work center's cost center and in most cases is different from the settlement rule's cost center.The difference is that the first cost center is just for reporting and the second is to be debited with the cost of the maintenance order.Also the profit center is copied from the responsible cost center.There is also another cost center in tab Location and is reffered to the cost center of the technical object into the pm order.
2.You can do anything you want with the cost center using the user exit tha Pja mentioned.
The standard sap function is that the responsible cost center is copied by the work center's cost center and the settlement rule's cost center is copied by the technical object's(equipment,functional location),cost center
