Deleting a Characteristic Value - Material Class

Postby MicheleK » Fri Oct 23, 2015 12:46 pm

We have a Class TEMP and under that Class we have a Characteristic STABILITY. Under that Characteristic there are six values available to select. We don't want one of those values anymore. Is it safe to delete that choice or should I just change the description to obsolete? We would rather it go away of course, but I have no idea the ramifications of that.

Hi,

You should remove the unwanted value from the release strategy assignment via CL20N transaction so that it won't be picked up in any release strategy.

If you have objects classified with the value you wish to obsolete, you can have problems with them unless you remove the values from the objects first.
If you want to keep the obsolete value on old objects, but want to prevent future use of that value, you can play tricks with object dependencies to hide the value when classifying new objects.
Good luck!
