Manufacturing date in Batch master

case 1 in-house produced:For some reason we do not want to turn on the manufacturing date OMJ5 configuration but we want to populate manufacturing date for eac batch so I can use oldest batch. so we are using some exit to populate that field In MSC2N.

case 2 For purchase order parts: we are not using this exit, but I see last goods reciept date is getting populated automatically for all batches.

when i goods issue these materials to production, I have to use last GR date field for batch search stategy. and when i goods issue case 1 material I want to use manufacturing date field for batch search strategy. In both cases material is same. how can I map this in SAP?

My plan is to add both manf date and last gr date to batch classification. but how does system know if it does not find manf date, use last gr date and do sorting on that field?

Another thought for you.

Have you considered using the batch creation date instead? It depends on how you create the batches of course and how critical the sorting is. You may find a few days of difference between batch creation and 1st Gr or manufacture date but often these are very close. Unless there is critical difference or you are dealing with very short shelf lives, you might find sort criteria based on Batch creation date might be work and would cover both types of materials. You'll need to create a general characterisitic that maps to the batch creation field there is no LOBM characteristic for this.

Another possible option is to create a new general characteristic and create a dependency for it that copies in either the manufacture date if it exists or the last GR date if it exists. Then set up your sort by the new general characteristic.
