Defaults/checks in Material Master

hello,



we are looking for a way to built some checks and defaults into our material master.



default profit center based on plant
material status if no valid price is present
....



I've been browsing and found:

BTE 1250: but it seems not possible to use this to update the material master?
BADI_MATERIAL_REF: but need for reference material?
BADI_MATERIAL_CHECK: but only limited fields possible?



can somebody explain a bit more or tell us how to do these kind of checks?

Hi,

How was your material master created?. Did you use the standard MM01 transaction?. The proposed solution as far as I am concerned is to include these defaults/checks in the material master maintenance / extension tool.

Hi,

What we did in our previous company is to build the material master extension tool in which custom validation rules were built and use the log to determine if any particular materials could not be extended due to violation of one of these rules.

material master extension tool , what is that?
is that selfmade using BAPIs and exits, or is it something ready to use from SAP?
Any link to SAP docu?

This is the custom tool which is built using BAPI to update the material master data related tables.
