Removing Serial number profile

Post by Thomkov » Fri Oct 31, 2008 3:15 am

Hi,

We want to deactivate serialization for some materials. The material is produced with serial numbers and is in stock.

What problems, if any, would come from changing the serial number profile off cause?

What happens to any serial numbers that have already been entered for these parts?

Does SAP maintain the serial numbers, and does not require the serial numbers to be entered anymore?

What problems, if any, would come about from having to change the serial number profile back on?

Pleas help

Thanks
TOM

Safest way is to remove the items from stock with their serial numbers, then remove the profile from the material - it should let you at this stage, but check there are no oustanding process involving it - then put the stock back without material numbers.

The serial numbers will still exist but they won't be active ..........
Regards.

If you are removing the serial profile, you need to remove all stock beforehand. Remove the profile. Then put the stock back. The old serial numbers will remain in the system (including their history) but will no longer be active.
