Material Master Records

Post by Guest 15 » Fri Sep 16, 2005 2:28 am

Hello

A company has several plants and material master records are assigned to those as needed and the system is running fine.

Now there is a need to assign some material which is used only in one plant to other plants also.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of this operation?

I suppose that at least it gets much harder to maintain material master records and warehouses?

Thanks!

Hello,

If you have created a material master for one plant with the views for that plant and you wish to use/stock/manage that same material in another plant within the same company you create the views for that material in the other plant via MM01.

Hi,

If they are only using for internal stock transfer, then you can set up the info record and use the source list to control it.

If the object is to use one plant as the supplying plant for internal stock transfer, then it would be better to use the "Special Procurement Type" of the MRP and let the MRP generate the requirement in the other plant. The material can then be transfered Plant to Plant without the need to maintain purchase info records and source list.

Hi Zythan,

Of course, with the usage of Special Procurement Type, the system will automatically generate the stock transfer requisition at the receiving plant. However, without the usage of source list, it is impossible for you to control the internal stock transfer only among pre-defined plant as end users can manually create such stock transport requisition to unwanted plant.
