MBA student wanting to learn SAP, which module?

Postby nasirkhan2 » Wed Nov 13, 2013 7:31 am

Hello. I am a MBA grad from Canada. I do not have much computer knowledge and do not have any programming knowledge at all. I was looking to learn SAP. I have never used SAP or learned it. Which certification would you recommend I take, I am leaning towards SAP HCM. Can you please help me, telling me if this is a good scope and which certification to take and does it require a lot of computer knowledge? Thank you.

But why SAP? there is not a golden pot at the end of the rainbow!!!

what is your MBA in? if you do not know SAP you need business process knowledge skills to help you otherwise you have now value add. certification without project and process knowledge is worthless as well as pointless.

if you are recently qualified, apply for and get on a graduate program. this way you can gain experience of projects at the same time as learning the skills and then you can decide/be influenced in the area you want to go in whilst being paid and being sponsored towards certification.

Thanks for your reply.
The reason I am leaning towards SAP is because of the more opportunities and money I can make. My MBA is in operations management. Was working for a few years in operations management but recently was laid off work. I feel if I add the SAP certification to my resume, it not only will help me getting a good job, but more money too. What do you think? Thanks again for the feedback....

so what about Production Planning? or PP Module.

if you moved to HCM you would start off as a beginner as you do not have the experience/background or qualifications to move into this area.

as i said before, there is no pot of gold with SAP. you have to work hard for years and get vast experience before you can start to do well. there is no quick fix and if you are getting into for the money then you are very misguided!!!

SAP Certification without project experience is not worth the paper is printed on! you will not find a job just because you have certification. without domain experience and knowledge it is completely worthless.

Thanks for your reply.
So basically your saying that I should continue to utilize my MBA and not worry about obtaining a SAP certification? Regardless of it being in PP or HCM? Do these things require a lot of computer knowledge, ie. programming?
I was told that if I add a SAP HCM to my operations management MBA, I would increase my salary quite considerable, and money is what most people work for!

I appreciate your help, as I have been very very confused lately...

you would not add to your salary as you would go back to the beginning as you have no HCM domain or project experience. to earn good money you need plenty of domain and project experience. there are no shortcuts to get anywhere!

it makes sense to use your current knowledge!
