Do you guys know anything about SAP SD?

If not, do not spend money on certification.

Spending money on certification will not give you a job.

your best bet is to get a job for a company that uses SAP. don't look for that SAP job yet... go work for Sales and distribution department. You will get SAP hands on experience, then, you can flash your SAP SD knowledge and try for an SAP job.

Dear Sumeet, Jyoti,

Just came across your queries on the forum.

Well I have a different opinion from that of Snowy.

I believe if you plan to make a career as a SAP professional, Certification from an authorized institute is essential. As you grow in experience in your career and move in top MNC's and international projects they lay more emphasis on you being a certified consultant.

Unless you looking it at from a short term perspective.

Am sure when opportunity comes knocking your door you would not want yourself caught wanting.

Couple of things I would like mention is

Both Lithan Genovate & Atos are one of the oldest Authorized SAP education partners.

In terms of Trainer's, Infrastrucute and facilities both of these are very competitive.

But in my opinion, unlike the other training institutes Lithan Genovate is exclusively into SAP Training for more than a decade and carry expertise in this field. They are considered to be the most Experienced, Trusted and Preferred education partner's in India.

My vote would go with Lithan Genovate. I suggest you can visit each of these centres and take a call.

All the Best.

Regards,

Rudy.

Pls note their trainers keep on changing because of money and availability issue. Some times, they even call their ex-students from previous batch for trainings. So a word of caution, always speak to the trainer and have his CV from the training institute before deciding which one to go for.

SAP certification does not guarantee a job but it will certainly give you an edge against competition and since it is systematic, you learn more. But as snowy said, unless u hv some past hands on expr, getting thru certification and subsequently job interview will be tougher

I'm not sure where you are based but in the European and US markets that is not the case. Since starting in 2000 no MNC or international project has ever showed any interest in my certification status.

That is some good advice about the trainers, even then it is possible that the CV is not truthful.

As a hirer, certification does not give a competitive edge for a candidate, there are so many other more important factors. The standard certification level has historically been so simple that even someone with certification could not be guaranteed to know the basics - just how to revise for an exam. I have regularly interviewed certified consultants in my field who are unaware of basic concepts which were examined in the certification exam.

I do agree but it all depends on he trainer and the trainee past expr in SAP before he/ she appears for certification study. I have seen tutors with NIL project expr teaching in institutes like Atos/ Genovate but are certified. How can you think that these people can give you enough knowledge? Then these institutes become more of a money making organizations and they even are no reluctant to hire tutors who have just done certification from their previous batch.

I am myself a tutor and teaching in these institutes and believe me, none of my students have ever failed in any interview since I follow the standard SAP methodology of teaching basics, giving them real industry experiences followed by hands on exercises.

As regards employers preferences, believe me, companies who are SAP partners and as well clients who are a bit SAP literate, prefer certified consultants. At the end, knowledge prevails.

On the preference for certification we will have to agree to disagree. As an employer myself and supplier of people to some of the most SAP literate companies in the world, certification has never been an issue.

Cheers

Same here. In 14 years, I was never asked for Certification.
