i heard that there is a lot of scope and with good opportunities so wanted to shift to SAP Basis Administrator.

But got confused whether is it the right time to move to other technology or not. out of 4.5years, i worked as SQL server DBA for one year and remaining into the application support.

The problem with SAP is that it is a difficult nut to crack!

the majority of companies rarely take on anyone without experience and no knowledge!
And some people falisfy their resumes and can ruin their reputations within the industry.

If you were already working for a company that has SAP then you could try and work alongside them. But breaking into SAP with no knowledge or experience would be very difficult!

some companies offer training but you should only ever do training with SAP or a training accredited partner.

Thank you friend for your suggestion. As said i don't have the experience on SAP, but got trained from a institute

With the below points i thought of moving into SAP Basis module
a) how support project model....how it works
b) troubleshooting experience
c) And as SQL server DBA i am aware of the DBA concepts and can work on db issues as most of the SAP reside on database

With the above points i had choosen to move to SAP Basis but me not sure whether the above would help me in future assignments. As i am not aware of the SAP workflow so this is the reason i had opted for a suggestion on forum to guide me

Thanks in advance.

"As You said you have experience in Application and production support on SQL Server DBA. And wants to switch to SAP, it will helpful to some extent and enhance your skills. With this technical skill you will definitely get a better opportunity. And SAP people are highly paid don't worry. As far as a SAP basis are concerned this module contains the topic:
SAP Basis
Security (BC – SEC)
Application Link Enabling (ALE)
Remote Function Calls (RFC)
Object Linking and Embedding (OLE)
Common Program Interface Communications (CPI-C)
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
Customizing (BC-CUS)
ABAP Programming and Runtime Environment (BC – ABA)
Client Server Technology (BC – CST)"
