confirmation - error in process

In our case , user creates Shopping cart for service items with limits, PO is created for same on R/3 side with item category service(D) with limits, there is no service master maintained.
When user tries to do confirmation is system, in the follow on documents tab we see that there is an error in process message and no Service entry sheet(SES) is created in R/3 side.

On checking further, we found that in R/3 side when user tries to do SES manually using Tcode ML81N, user is only able to edit the fields at the header level, no fields are available for editing at service/ item level.

can some one suggest what we need to look at to resolve the issue.

So what kind of error message do you get in bdm2? this may throw light on the issue. Also not sure what kind of comparison using the same user in EBP and R/3 to post the same transaction? users shoudl have different roles and profiles in differeing systems.
