Few BR improvement suggestions:

- Add "Urgent in thread body rule". Now it only exists for thread subject
- Change "Urgent" to "Urgent or similar phrase" all over the rules. because "Help or I will be fired" falls under this even without saying "Urgent".
- Resurrecting old topics rule allows a lot speculation because "old" and "absolutely necessary" is not defined anywhere. I suggest to remove this rule at all and to treat all similar cases by "Hijacking another thread" rule to close this discussion forever. Maybe "even outdated one" needs to be added to hijacking rule
- Minor thing. In the rule about post duplicated in another forums, add "and double-posts" that means posts duplicated in same forum.

I am suggesting all this because those cases happen often and being a mod, one can't really quote any BR paragraph without leaving room for questions.

I agree with 1. and 2.
I am, however, divided on 3. Sometimes people do use the Search-function and answer posts totally outdated simply overlooking the date they were posted. I tend to be merciful on those. In case of a "I have the same problem, has anyone found a solution" follow-ups I am even more divided, mostly I split them off and mark the subject as "Split". After all, it shows people have been searching ... YuriT is correct though, we should move uniformly. Lets discuss this special topic in the moderators forum.
I agree with 4.

I have been adjusting the basic rules according to YuriT's and Snowy's suggestions. Please re-read them.

I suggest, we discuss the matter of 3.) in the moderators forum. If you would be so kind, YuriT?

As soon as I get access to it...

Otherwise looks ok.

I also don't quite understand "authorized by OP" part in hijacking rule... This won't work.

Admins-is announcing that I'll be speaking on a topic at a conference considered an advertisement? I will not be getting paid, but the conference does charge attendees.

Will wait for your sage advice,

Sorry, I should have provided a little more information. There is no posting yet. It was my intent to post that I was going to be speaking at a conference, as well as the topic, and wanted to know if that would be appropriate use of the board, or if it would be locked or deleted. I read the rules, and I couldn't tell if it would violate the restriction on advertising. I like being able to post here, and didn't want my standing damaged by posting something in violation of the rules.

Thanks in advance.

Budman,

I cannot see that such a post would violate a rule. However, we do not have a forum especially dedicated to such activities, so I suggest you put it in General Discussion (GD).

As long as the contents sticks to the rules I cannot see why anybody would want to lock it ... BTW: what conference?
