Creating Inspection Lots during packing of Handling Units

Postby DSamson » Tue Aug 12, 2014 2:17 pm

Gurus:

Is there anyone out there who has some intimate knowledge of the interaction of QM with Handling units? My searches on this forum have shown only some quite old results, and the SAP help files do not address my specific problem:

We have a situation where we produce Co-products from a Production Order that have to be packed into cases and then those cases are loaded onto a pallet. The pallet has to be a Handling Unit.

The SAP process for GR of Co-products does not allow a direct packing into a HU, so the current process is that the Co-products are received off the Production Order to a non-HU Storage Location, then they are packed and moved all in one transaction (HU02) into the Handling Unit and into a Freezer Storage Location which is HU-managed.

The challenge for QM is that on transfer to the Freezer we need to create an Inspection Lot and place the goods in the HU into QI stock, as we have a hold period before they can be processed further.

The standard SAP process does not appear to cater for this. What we are finding is that the initial packing of the HU in HU02 does not create an Inspection lot, despite the Material having the necessary Inspection type with the HU check box activated. It is only when the HU is subsequently transferred from one SLoc to another that the Inspection Lot is created. This is not what we need.

Has anyone come across this before and is there a solution?

Thanks!
