Assign Class (of Class type 023) to MIC

Postby bart jongen » Mon Sep 09, 2013 9:32 am

Dear,

I am trying to set up the automatic copying of Inspection results into the Batch characteristic (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_470/helpdat ... ameset.htm).
For that, I have created a Class (Class type 023) TEST with only one Characteristic WIDTH.
I have created a Material 123 and assigned Class TEST to it.
Now when I create a Master Inspection Characteristic WIDTH, I want to assign it to Class TEST.
I tried to do so via QS21/QS23: Environment > Classification / Classification-button.

When I then try to change the Class type (from 005 to 023), the following message pops up:
No assignments found for class type 005
Message no. CL509

My question is how can I make the assignment?
Thanks in advance for any clues.
Kind regards,

You don't assign the MIC to the 023 class. You don't have to assign the MIC to any classes. You only assign MIC's to a an 005 class if you either want to have a way of grouping similar mics together, or need to capture special information in characteristics about the MIC. I have rarely ever had a need to use the 005 classification.

What you did up to that point is fine.

When you create the MIC, it needs to be created with reference to the general characteristic "WIDTH".

Also, you should make sure that in configuration in the QM plant settings, you have "Batch valuation without material spec" clicked on. Otherwise you'll have to maintain a material spec using QS61.

I hope this helps.

Hello Craig,

Thanks for your help.
I have adjusted the customizing, but it still does not work.
I created the MIC WIDTH (exactly the same name as the Batch characteristic) and marked it as a Reference characteristic (X) so it is reference in the Inspection plan.
(I also created an Inspection plan for Material 123, with the referenced MIC WIDTH in it).

The MIC name and the general characteristic name do not have to be the same.

They are linked when you create the MIC. On the first screen of QS21 is a field for "Class characteristic". You enter the general characteristic name in that field.
