oocu-resp is slow

Currently we are using workflow with custom table and OOCU_RESP for approvals. OOCU_RESP is using responsibilities with container elements such as Project assigned to agent=users. They are not using HR org structure. The custom table tells it what rule to look up and WF looks for the container element matching the order and pings out a message to that person. However OOCU_RESP is slow with the number of entries (over 30k across 60 rules). Im thinking of moving all this data to a series of custom tables instead as Im sure it will be quicker! We are not using OOCU_RESP for the way it is intended, and are just using each rule as a bucket to hold similar assignments, but when we want to work back the way and find a user of container element, reporting is verrry slow!

Im interested in if there could be any other config or approaches using WF that I might have missed? Also Im interested in hearing from experience, if you have used a custom table instead of oocu-resp because of performance issues?
