what after SAP security at age of 40

Is sap security administration a good career for lifetime or is there a progression path.
what is the next level to go or should one keep on learning new sap products security.

I guess it depends what interests you. If you want to stay technical then there is a whole world of security out there that compliments SAP. A broad security knowledge is a great advantage as it gives you options over & above that which SAP provides.

Related to security is the area of controls. You can start on ITGC's and go on to business process controls if it interests you. Both give you good opps to stay in or move out of SAP should that interest you.

Plenty of people move into team lead roles & then broaden their remit to cover other areas (but aren't hands-on any more).

There are lots of options :D

There is always a demand for SAP Security professionals and they are needed in projects. They should not only be knowledgable in Authorisations but also Basis and Abap. In addition, a good understanding of controls and how to resolve control issues.
The other natural progression is going into GRC (Governance Risks and Compliance). Most companies are starting to replace they manual/semi-automated processes for user provisioing, Segregation of Duties checks and Privilege access.
