Authorization possibilities in displaying material master

Postby Riser » Thu Oct 13, 2011 2:06 am

Dear Experts,
I have recevied a question from one of our clients if it is possible "hide" the standard price in the material master for specific users. Not all users should be able to see this field in the material master tab "Accounting 1" and "Costing 2".

Have anyone experience in such a request?

If it is not possible to restrict the specific field standard price, maybe it is possible to restrict access to certain tabs in the material master?

Thanks in advance,
Best regards,
Riser

You cannot control access to individual fields without writing code.
M_MATE_STA will limit access to specific views: 'B' = Accounting and 'G' = Costing.
Good luck!

Code will do it. Transaction variants will also do it. Have a look at both & see which approach fits your requirements.

I always seemed to have trouble securing fields using transaction variants because there are so many places in SAP that branch internally to the standard transaction thus bypassing the variant. MM03 would seem especially difficult in this regard as one can branch to MM03 from within so many SAP transactions. I admit that I have not used transaction variants since release 4.0 - perhaps there is a way around this issue now?
Good luck!

They are a bit better now but like you say, you have to be careful with navigation from other and within the transaction & menu itself.

I prefer the coding approach myself, mainly because it's done with more rigour than tx variants!

Hi again,
When you say coding, I guess you are using an user-exit for that, or?

Thanks in advance,

Check the enhancement points in module FELDAUSWAHL (LMGD101D) to see if you can do it there. I've never done it, but that's probably where I'd start looking.
Good luck!
