Authorizations Made Easy

Postby roadwarrior01 on Tue Feb 05, 2008 2:16 pm

I'm a FICO guy but just got handed resp. for authorizations (in my area) at a client site. I was given Authorizations Made Easy v4.5 in PDF format, but following thru, it seems pretty dated (grey GUI, older terminology etc).

Is there a new version applicable to ECC 6.0? There are lots of "Security Guides" on the SAP website, but they are completely different, very high level. If there is a new version on the Web could someone furnish me the link?

Screen shots and step by step instructions for SAP Security User Administration using SU01, and Role Design using PFCG have not changed much since the last authorization made easy guide was published. If it ever does I am sure SAP will publish a new one, since they make money on the book.

That is the only step by step screenshot manual I know of. The other SAP books from SAP Press are good reference but do not replace the Authorizaitons Made Easy guide for someone first learning to administer users and roles in a production enviroment.

in 4.5, there were no composite roles... in 4.5, roles were called activity groups.

What's this ... a history lesson ?

Well ..... composites did exist in 4.6B but they were still called Activity Groups ... didn't become roles until 4.6C .....
Regards.

Not reading about composites is a great idea, saves using those bloody things :-)

Rely on ? OK not really. Get helpful background from ? Yes.

He could also google sap_users_and_authorisations_705 and download that - dated 1999 for 46B, so a little newer ...........
Regards.

1. Basically I don't use composite roles - only if the role is one SAP has designed for a specific preconfiguration purpose.
2. And I agree with the whole Authorizations Made Easy outlook - just change all the places where "activity group" occurs to "role", and you are good for use with a ECC 500 or ECC 600 system.

Thanks everybody, and thanks "ib", I downloaded the pdf and it's very useful. Just replace "activity group" with "role" and it's virtually unchanged in ECC6.0. Except of course the Basis area menu paths which are completely reorganized due to NetWeaver. But it's reassuring to see the Enjoy GUI instead of "classic grey".

Don't worry too much about those details. Remember 50% of what's in Auths Made Easy & you will know more than 50% of those who have sat the cert exam.

I'm confused - isn't that what I said in the post right before you? I don't think it looks anymore intelligent in paraphrase.

Tinuviel, I think our comments crossed in the mail. I posted mine before yours were displayed. Sorry for any confusion.
