Laptops and Smartphones banned in Florida!!!

Post by Baz » Tue Jul 09, 2013 7:38 am

so those crazy Americans have passed a law in Florida that outlaws "any machine or device or system or network of devices " that can be used for gambling!

As used in this chapter, the term "slot machine or device" means any machine or device or system or network of devices that is adapted for use in such a way that, upon activation, which may be achieved by, but is not limited to, the insertion of any piece of money, coin, account number, code, or other object or information, device or system is directly or indirectly caused to operate or may be operated and if the user, whether by application of skill or by reason of any element of chance or of any other outcome unpredictable by the user
so now laptops and smartphones have been banned in Florida!! lol! they did not think that through...

welcome to the land of the free!!!! lmao!

Only in America!!!

Baz,

just like ANY other client. They never think stuff through. In addition, this would ban online banking.
So, this will never take effect.

That's the funny thing with the law in america. Might be on the books, but is never enforced.
They seem a little busy weeding out old stuff.

Correction: I actually looked at the PDF now :D
It relates to non-profit organizations and basically means that for a raffle, they can not charge any monies.
Not sure how much sense that makes, but it has a few exceptions.

So, no banned laptops or cells in general, only in connection with certain businesses or activities

Does that not apply to the entire country ??

(Sorry - been working on something and having read some background I'm wound up about how America can apply it's laws to a non-us citizen residing in Denmark....)
On 26 February 2012 the Danish newspaper Berlingske reported that US authorities evidently have sufficient control over SWIFT to seize money being transferred between two EU countries (Denmark and Germany), since they have seized around U$26,000 which were being transferred from a Danish to a German bank. The money was a payment by a Danish businessman for a batch of Cuban cigars previously imported to Germany by a German supplier. As justification for the seizure, the U.S. Treasury has stated that the Danish businessman has violated the United States embargo against Cuba.
So why the f* did they not hit the importer rather than the customer ??

If that story is true, I doubt the US gets away with it. At least would US law not apply and the article doesn't state any special legal relationship. So many europeans go on vacation to Cuba, there would be a lot more money in, if all the transactions for flight and hotel bookings would be handled the same way.

It must have some background in truth because SWIFT have now split their systems into US and Non-US with the two totally seperated.

Don't get me wrong Rich,

it seems that as of late people don't care much about the law or totally over do it.
Every time I get cold feet because of a customer request and ask if a lawyer validated that, they get bully with me.

The last time I had a major fight when Solvakia joint the Euro and some dumb nut of project manager wanted to convert the whole historical data to Euro. He didn't even get my sarcastic comment "which exchange rate I should apply for data pre Euro" say 1990

Took me and the finance people some time to convince the guy that he was wrong. We wanted the consent of the CFO for that request.

The other issue was failed invoices totalling some 8 Million Euros that never made it from SD to FI due to some bugs before yeard end close. They closed the books and ignored the failed bookings.

I got quite a few of those examples and really wonder what they are (not) doing.

Seems the $26.000 is painlessly earned. No pun intended, but I don't think many consultants woult hit the breaks when such things occur.

And heres another Americanism.....

Remember the story when former President Bill Clinton was visiting Southern Californa and was getting ready to Depart LAX aboard Air Force 1 and he was getting some personal grooming performed on the taxiway.

(For those of you who have never flown into an Airport where Airforce is operating, they ground stop all civilian traffic or send all airborne traffic into holding patterns indefinitely)

About 3 weeks Later I was flying into CLE Hopkins............Guess who was there visiting in Air Force 1?

Cleveland Center was vectoring everyone into holding patterns....................

CO XXX asked center "what the expected delay was"...............................

Center came back with "How long can you hold"

COXXX without a pause said " It depends on if the President is just getting a trim or the full service"............

......................You could have heard a PIN drop on center Freq for about 1 minute

Trust me Rich, They do it all the time in the US. I wish the President would just stay the hell home.

Once when Bush was President, he was going into center city Philly for an evening political fund raiser for someone. He flew into Philly airport and took a motorcade into center city. They shut down I-95 (the biggest interstate highway running right through Philly), all 6-8 lines in both directions. Normally we probably wouldn't have cared much. Except that this was at 5:00 PM on a Friday afternoon. You want to talk about a bunch of PO'ed commuters! It was gridlock everywhere for hours.

I think if you went to Seattle you would find lots of smart folks. Generally the South East (where I grew up) leads the pack for stupid and the North West is much sharper.

Yeah right.

They cheat too!!!! They call Washington "The Green State"
They should call it "The Wet State". I was there on a project once and it was raining - always. And snow.
And the buggers have no idea how to drive on snow.

North West of the USA? You are talking about Alaska or Canada?

Martin, it's hard to drive on snow using modern tyres. I suppose your stone ones will get better grip.

The US is a very big place. Texas our second biggest state is bigger than that country you live in. So it is useful to decide it into sections. The Northwest I would describe as Washington State, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana I guess

Anyway I was really referring to Seattle

Having said that Canada is a very nice place and you are less likely to get shot there than pretty much anywhere in the US which I would say is a good thing
