I really doubt it. Even if today all companies using SAP decide to use something else, effort required to move from SAP will be enough to provide us with work till the end of our lives.

That is a relief. I must admit I was beginning to get worried.

Companies may not replace SAP with some other software. But, SAP may replace one technology/product with something else.

For example, about 8 years ago, there was a real fear (among some people) that SAP will replace ABAP with Java. Whatever the reasons, that didn't become reality.

Around year 2000, SAP was promoting products such as Mobile Sales (MSA) and Mobile Service (MSE). If your company implemented them and if your only skill was in those products, you would be doing something else by now - probably non-SAP.

According to some people, currently there is a serious threat to SAP BW product from SAP's own new products such as HANA and Business Objects. We should know in about 5 years whether BW will survive or not.

Let me give you an analogy.

I shop for toothpaste in a supermarket. Let's say Colgate. Whenever I enter the supermarket, I search for my toothpaste....but they have moved the shelves. Now, the shelves are behind toys. Heck, next time, the shelves are behind lingerie. I figured out, the supermarkets want me to see toys one time and lingerie another. Hoping I would buy toys & lingerie (I know, I know, some of the regulars are rubbing their hands in glee)

Enterprise Computing technology works in same way. There are people who fall for toys & lingerie. They are called IT Managers & CIOs. Then there are shelves pushers...they are called "Consultants".

Have a nice one.

Cheers
BT

(for the curious, my reference to toothpaste and Colgate....I have sparkling white teeth)

Currently I am working SAP technology as technical support. I came to know that some people where saying that SAP technology will get saturated in near future because it focuses only on Business and ERP. Can anyone tell me whether SAP technology will get obsolete?

SAP is very good in inventing new stuff so that companies pay more.

We have BW, why go for Business Objects? Because SAP said so and they will slowly force everyone to move to this.... and pay more for their licenses.

SAP will be there in 10 years and making more money.

No. I'm not worried about SAP technology getting saturated in the future.

While I think an underwater server farm would be way cool, and it would save a ton of money on the AC and Halon systems, we don't have anywhere near enough BASIS folks qualified as SCUBA divers yet. While I do know a few who can take a dive however, and a number of others that are usually all wet to begin with, this is still a long way away.

PS> BlueTooth: You mean there is something behind the lingerie department? I never thought to go any farther. No wonder sales are down in the other departments. Maybe that always explains why I'm always forgetting what I came for.

To an extent, true. There are limited BASIS SCUBA divers...but they do exist.

Air cooled from 17,000 feet (7430 ?? Metres). Mind you it would only have an 'UP' time of about 90 seconds.

@Blueteeth. Red Satin indeed. That's put my mind off work for the entire day! I note that you have not submitted a pic for the Sapfans Gallery yet.

One in Red Satin would do nicely!

You have your mind on work? Really? Whatever for?

I'm with Snowy. SAP is all about money and they will have to substitute their own stuff eventually, so they can keep sales going - all, that isn't lucrative enough has been left to 3rd party providers - and they make enough money of the scraps still.

Puuuleasseee... Fish would never be caught dead with fru fru ruffles!

I'm thinking black might be more her color: http://www.bebe.com/Dresses/Little-Blac ... /14339.pro

Or on a real formal, festive day, maybe blue: http://www.weddingdressesebay.com/eveni ... 00072.html

<sings>
Fish In White Satin, never reaching the end,
Letters I've written, never meaning to send.
Beauty I'd always missed with these eyes before.
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore.

'Cos I love you, yes I love you, oh how I love you.

Gazing at people, some hand in hand,
Just what I'm going through they can't understand.
Some try to tell me, thoughts they cannot defend,
Just what you want to be, you will be in the end.

And I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you.

Fish In White Satin, never reaching the end,
Letters I've written, never meaning to send.
Beauty I've always missed, with these eyes before.
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore.

'Cos I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you.
'Cos I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you.

Breath deep
The gathering gloom
Watch lights fade
From every room
Bedsitter people
Look back and lament
Another day's useless
Energy spent

Impassioned lovers
Wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love
And has none
New mother picks up
And suckles her son
Senior citizens
Wish they were young

Cold hearted orb
That rules the night
Removes the colours
From our sight
Red is gray and
Yellow white
But we decide
Which is right
And
Which is an Illusion
</croaks>
