How old is your favorite denim jeans?

Post by blueteeth » Sun Oct 02, 2011 6:52 am

Hey,

It's not me, the spammers during the weekend.

Seriously, when buying a good denim jean, what do you look into?
I am a kind of guy who prefer function over form with "built to last" motto.

Any memorable stories in your favorite jeans would be nice (like searching for ping-pong balls on knees under stairs?).

Cheers,
BT

As long as they have a zip, I'm not too fussy.

I have vowed to never wear button ups again since that day I walked around the office (and commuted) with my love sausage hanging out.

I seem to remember that as #1264. I'll have to search Sapfans because I'm sure you''ve mentioned it before.

The legs ??

My oldest pair of jeans were held together by oil, grease, beer, different types of take away food, various biological fluids and effluent......and stood up on their own in the corner.

It's not a jean, but made of jean clothing... I have a jacket more than 20 years old... I promised my wife I will kill her if she trashes it.

I only wear Levis 559 (relaxed and straight) but they cost around £75 in the UK and only $40 in the US. However, over there the aggressive washing machines/water or something tends to shrink them. So before I left I donated the shrunken pairs to the local midget charity shop and bought 1/2 dozen new pairs which will have to last me for the next 5 years or so unless I go back for a visit.

I still prefer the old fashioned "wrangler" jeans, straight leg. You have to break them in but nothing fits better than a pair you have broken in yourself. No pain, no gain. All those pre washed, stone washed, pre faded stuff never lasts as long and never feels as good.

I am now told, its the Japanese who make "real" blue denim. When I am not doing SAP Basis, I am farming (not server farming, but farming as in agriculture). Where function over form takes over. My inkling is, most administrators are functional in mind than presentation. Hence the original question.

Not denim, but black leather, slim fit. Alright, after 4 years ... around the knees ... no longer slim.

Whatever. Denims are mindbuggling expensive over here (at least the good ones: wrangler, Lee, Levis etc). and awesomely thin in fabric. That wasn't always so ... or I seem to remember, it wasn't. So, even the "good brands" tend to give out after two or three years.

BT, why is it, the Japanese now are the only ones, making "real" denim?

There is this sentiment from hardcore Denim Jeans lovers that Japanese Denim manufacturing process and the final product meets their requirements. Some of these lovers are motorcycles riders.

Just search for Ironheart, one of the niche makers.

In no way, I am promoting them (can't afford a $500 jeans). I tend look out for opinions of hardcore users about product I intend to buy. For e.g., (I know it's an overkill), I have a Hilti drill machine at home :)
