London Rabies Shot Logistics

Post by bgamble » Sun Jun 28, 2009 6:18 am

OK so a few weeks ago in Colorado, my daughter was bitten by a stray dog. The dog ran off before anyone could catch it so she is having to go through the rabies shots ordeal.

My daughters are coming to visit me arriving on Sunday at Heathrow in the early afternoon and we will take the tube to Kings Cross and then the train to Leeds so I can be at work Monday morning.

Still trying to figure out the exact time that she needs to get the shot but it looks like I may need to take her to a hospital or something in London along the way to get it taken care of.

So the question is, What hospital can I stop by along the tube rout from Heathrow to Kings Cross to get the shots for her. I want to call and make sure they are ready to take care of it. Apparently the timing is pretty important

Oh marvellous, we've been rabies free in the UK for a hundred years then Bryson and his family turn up frothing at the mouth.

Am I to assume a Friday PM beer in London is a remote possibility?

Let me know in good time as I will get a Tetanus boost before meeting you. Thanks.

Friday is a non starter. But maybe in a few weeks when I take the girls back to the Heathrow. Now how about some information on the location of a hospital in London?

Unfortunately if the poor girl has it then you are too late for an inoculation. The law as I remember it is that they will test her and if positive burn her alive. It's sounds a little harsh but was effective in eliminating the disease.

But check, they may have changed the rules since then.

as a johnny foreigner, i dont think you will get treatment easily at a public hospital, so you might be better checking out a place like this, a private medical center, they will help you out for a fee

You could get a cab/bus to Hillingdon hospital (15 mins by Cab, 30 by bus), then cab/bus into Uxbridge (<10 Mins) where these a large tube/metro station taking you into London. That's one possibility.

However, if you're expecting to walk into a hospital, get a jab and walk out in less than a few hours then you might get a bit of a shock.

The alternative, there is a private doctor/surgery at Paddington station and you might be able to call them. They will probably allow you to enter, get jabbed and leave within a few minutes, but of coarse you'll have to pay. You can get a cab to Hayes station from Heathrow (<10 mins) and then catch the fast train into Paddington (22 mins), get jabbed and then from that station you can get to anywhere in London. The doctors surgey is on the mid level, so you'll need to go up the moving stairs from inside Paddington station.

aww bless ya you colonials are so used to being shafted by your system that you find it amusing we dislike it when ours attempts to do it :D

Free healthcare for all is about the only thing that it's worth being proud of being British for anymore. As for the rest of Bevan's reforms I dare way the poor sod is more giddy than I am at what they've turned into......
Kind Regards

In the Czech Republic, last year they introduced a change in the healthcare that resulted in a person having to pay 30kc for each Dr visit. That's about $1.50

It pissed off everyone so much that it was canned within a few months.

Two years ago, we were on a trip in the US and my daughter starting having some stomach cramps. My wife was concerned that it might be appendicitis so we took her to the hospital.

They did some tests and she was ok

Two weeks later I got a bill for $5000.00. And we were not among the 50% of Americans without health insurance

I bet that, if the American people know truth about the way they are being conned by their own healthcare industry, they would have to let Bernie Madoff out of his cell to make room for the bastards who are running the healthcare scam

ask S_C, USA is the best country in the world. If USA gets free healthcare, it would be a socialist measure and that is unacceptable. S_C has been pretty quiet since Obama won...
