Business Workplace Attachments

I add simple text attachments for all of my BW items. The short text shows up in the preview pane so that at a glance I can understand what's going on with that particular item. My questions is that I will add an attachment and am sometimes able to edit it and sometimes I can't. As things change for the item I need to update this text to reflect what is happening. Sometimes I can edit it and then other times when I click on the attachment and click on Change Attachment I get an error message that says, "No changeable attachments" when there is clearly an attachment associated with this item. How can I edit all of my attachments 100% of the time? Also, are there any good websites, tutorials or books on using and customizing Business Workplace? Any help and or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any and all help provided.
