Is there a market for my application?

Postby Robert78 » Mon Sep 27, 2010 9:14 am

Dear All,

Several months ago I have developed an application
which I would describe shortly as a simplified
documentation management system for SAP.

This application allows user to create documentation
(help) for particular SAP transaction. It is then
automatically displayed on the right side of the
screen when user enters the transaction.

Documentation is edited in the internal HTML editor and
may include links, images (like screenshots), attachments
(like Microsoft Word files) and so on.

It is a simple but powerful application since
documentation can be edited by any user and it helps
to centralize customized SAP documentation rather
than have many files scattered in different folders
and computers.

I would like to ask you about your opinion if there is
a market for my application. It would be addressed for
small and middle-sized companies that don't want
buy more expensive and complex systems.

I have small experience on how people manage with
self-written SAP documentation in other companies
and therefore I would like to ask you about it.

Best regards,
Robert

Yikes! Surely not! Even a small and middlesized company would want to be able to limit 'writing access' (like edit - and delete) to a small and precisely defined group. Does you tool allow for this?

Hello,

The commercial version would surely allow to do this. This is one of the feature
I would need to implement in commercial version. At this moment I'm just
wondering is there a place on the market for simple SAP documentation management
software.

In my company there were a lot of different documentations written by users
or external constultans and my application helps do keep it in one place
and links to SAP transactions.

Thank you for your reply,
Robert

Hi,
If you would like to make your product commercial in connection with SAP you might have to review the requirements from an SAP standpoint.
They have a certification program, which you can review on their website.

Hi,

1. If this means, that every commercial application that works with connection to SAP
need to have a certification?

2. What do you think about the idea of my software?

Best regards,
Robert

no, but it would be a good boost to sell your product. Note that certifying your product will cost you a lot of money.

also note that some companies will never try to install a non-certified third party program on their SAP servers.

Dear All,

Thank you for all your replies. But I would love to hear your opinion about
the idea of my application.

Do you think that there might be a demand for solution that helps to
manage custom-written SAP documentation? Critical opinions are to me just
as valuable as positive ones.

Best regards,
Robert

To be honest with you, SAP sells a software, RWD (which is highly overrated in my opinion and too difficult to teach, but what ho), so have a look here.

We have it and it is kinda 'hanging about' - nobody cares much, so yes, a much simpler solution might sell. That makes it all the more important to get it certified ... see Snowy and Jan Pel.
