Precision Consulting, Inc. (PCI) files copyright infringement lawsuit against Virsa Systems, Inc.; seeks damages and injunctive relief

SAN DIEGO, CA – Precision Consulting, Inc. (PCI) announced today that it has filed legal action against Virsa Systems, Inc. (Virsa) of Fremont, California for copyright infringement, vicarious copyright infringement, and contributory copyright infringement.

Filed in U.S. Southern District Court of California, the complaint charges Virsa with infringing two copyrights related to PCI’s software (Precision SAP Security Toolbox). The copyrighted software is used for security and user administration within the SAP application. PCI’s product, as well as the alleged infringing product from Virsa (The Virsa Risk Assessment Tool or VRAT), have received considerable attention recently due to tighter financial reporting procedures placed on companies in wake of Sarbanes-Oxley.

According to the complaint, Virsa greatly desired to add PCI’s software to its own inventory after witnessing its successful utilization in a mutual client’s SAP system. The complaint further alleges that after licensing negotiations fell through, PCI discovered that Virsa was offering nearly the same software to clients under a different name.

As a result of Virsa’s alleged infringement, PCI is seeking damages in an amount to be proven at trial and an injunction prohibiting Virsa from selling the infringing software in the future. “We license our software to many companies, and our goal is to receive fair value for PCI's development efforts. We're looking to protect our intellectual property with the appropriate agreements and for proper compensation," said Lonnie Perkins, PCI’s Chief Technical Officer.
