Hello,
We were told by SAP that the character limit is limited to 18 characters for part numbers in R/3. However, our business requires that character limit to be upto 30 characters. Is this a limitation on R/3 whether it's a Version 4.7 or the latest one.
Thanks for the response.

Hello,
This is correct: the maximum number of characters for the material number is 18 characters.
What about the material classification to maintain your old material number and use SAP to assign new (internally) assigned material numbers?
What is the actual business requirement(s) to have a material number of 30 characters? Is there some logic on the existing material number?
Regards,
Jan Pel
