Bex Broadcaster fails with Symantec Endpoint Protection

Postby BillStouffer » Thu May 16, 2013 1:40 pm

Bex Broadcaster fails when Symantec Endpoint Protection is installed.

Sap Support has been little help so I am reaching out to Sapfans

We have a long running problem with not being able to Send Bex Broadcasts as long as Symantec Endpoint protection is running.

Symptoms include

In transaction RSRD_ADMIN when we select "Log Display" and drill into log of a broadcast job we see the following entry
Java system error: connection to partner 'wingvsbiq02.lord.local:1908' broken / CPIC-CALL:

At the same time in SM59 the TCP/IP connection “BWQ_WINGVSBIQ01_BWQ” will hang when a connection test is attempted. The connection test never comes back and eventually we do a Stop Transaction from the SapGui.

Once these symptoms begin and the Broadcasts begin failing the only solution we have is to restart the Java Stack on this Abap+Java system. We do this by using the transaction smicm and do the following
Administration
J2EE_Cluster (global)
Send Hard Shutdown with restart

We had this exact problem in the past and after several customer messages and a great deal of interaction with support it was determined a Symantec upgrade might solve the problem. We upgraded Symatec to one version newer than the one suggested by support and the broadcasts began behaving as expected. We used a newer version than Support suggested because the version requested was only available in German. The suggested version was “Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 Release Update 1 Maintenance Pack 1” and the version we used was “12.1.2015.2015”

The Broadcast jobs ran fine for three months then for no known reason began failing again with the symptoms described above. When the problems reoccurred we had done no maintenance or made any changes to the System

Any suggestions would me most appriciated
