unable to create OLE2 objects in CRM UI

Postby imdiko24 » Thu Sep 16, 2010 1:34 pm

Hi Gurus,

I had a requirement to upload an Excel (.xls) file to a CRM 7 system via ABAP. There were no useful Excel upload Func. Modules there so I used OLE2 objects instead to upload the file. When ran via SAP GUI the program works fine but when I tried running it from the CRM UI transaction launcher it doesn't work. Right after the create syntax my sy-subrc turns to '2' and thus can no longer proceed..

Code: Select all
CREATE OBJECT excel 'EXCEL.APPLICATION'.

Why can't it create an OLE2_OBJECT when executed from CRM UI? From the SAP GUI side it works great. At first i thought it might be an auth issue so I called 'AUTHORITY_CHECK_OLE' but it returns a nice and clean '0' even from the CRM UI.

Regards.

I'm shadowing this topic in the CRM forum, maybe someone there has an answer.

No idea specifically about CRM, but...

The OLE application needs to reside on the machine executing the Gui, which is why you tend to have problems with OLE stuff in the background - servers don't generally have for example excel on them. Where does the CRM UI run it's stuff ? If it's not directly connected to a PC with the relevant application on (so for example it runs things via an RFC or a background job) then it'll fail.
