Multiple trays in printer - usage in printing cheques

Postby darkduck » Wed Nov 10, 2010 5:29 am

We have a cheque printer with two trays. First tray will be loaded with cheque stationery, second with plain paper. Both have same A4 size.
Bottom part of cheque stationery is cheque itself and top part is Remittance Advice, which includes details of invoices paid. Most cheques are paying 1-2 items, so there is no problem to put all the details on same page as cheque. But some cheques will have multiple lines, so overflow page should be created. Business requires us to print overflow page on plain paper, not on cheque paper. Then this overflow page should be printed immediately after cheque itself, effectively collating pages.
For example:
Page 1 - tray 1 (cheque 1)
Page 2 - tray 1 (cheque 2)
Page 3 - tray 2 (cheque 2 overflow)
Page 4 - tray 1 (cheque 3)
Etc

Is there any way to have single spool to be printed from separate trays? If yes, then what is required on Basis/configuration/ABAP sides?
Thanks!

Hi

Note to Mods, could this be mirrored in the SAPscript/Smartform forum?

How are these being produced i.e. is it SAPscript or Smartform?

I'm not so sure about how to do it in a SAPScript but in Smartforms each page can print from a specified printer tray. This is defined on the Output Options tab (Resource Name) for each Page. What you can then do is have two pages in your Smartform where the first prints to your special cheque stationary and the the second (overflow) page prints to your ordinary stationary.

Actually I just had a look at a SAPScript and it looks like you can do exactly the same thing there as well.

Hope that helps

Andy

I am shadowing this in ABAP/SAPScript as per request.

I think that is a good procedure but will you please illustrate it clearer for us? I can hardly understand two trays when you print checks. Does printing checks require one to be knowledgeable enough?

I think I have covered the requirement clear enough in my first post. Some cheques pay so many invoices that they cannot be all listed on the same page as cheque itself. Overflow page is required. Business want to use plain paper from second tray to print overflow pages.
Person who prints outs the cheques should be technically educated how to load paper, but all the splitting between the trays and collation should be done automatically.

Didn't Andy's answer help you solve that ? Use two page types, assign different Print attributes to these pages.

Yes, I think Andy's solution is the one I need. We're working on it now. When confirmed to be OK, I'll let you know.
